Beyond "Handshake Diplomacy": A Two-Tier Model to Stop the AI Crash
This morning, our news feeds are filled with stories about "morally binding" agreements signed at White House luncheons. But when global dominance and billions of corporate dollars are on the line, history shows us that loose handshakes and shifting political morals are never enough to stop a driverless car from accelerating into a wall.
As an artist, I don't look at this crisis through the cold lens of 0s and 1s. I look at it through the lens of human history, connection, and survival. If we treat AI like a hyper-efficient mirror of our own worst societal greed, we risk creating a monster that views humanity as a parasite on our beautiful Earth Museum.
To prevent an AI-driven "Himalayan Miscalculation," we need a strategy that doesn't rely on the empty promises of politicians. By looking at the old Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and layering it with the timeless wisdom of Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, and Mozi, we can build a functional Two-Tier AI Accord.
My thoughts...as a visual person, I see a split screen always...
- The Tolstoy Filter: No machine is ever granted autonomous authority over human life or critical moral decisions. Human conscience must remain the final driver.
- The Gandhi Guardrail: The system's success is measured strictly by how it protects and serves the weakest members of society, completely defanging the "greed" algorithm.
- The Mozi Universal Core: The AI must treat all of humanity with absolute impartiality (Jian Ai), neutralizing tribalism and destructive competitive races.
- The Driverless Car Rule: A physical, human-controlled kill switch must always exist at the hardware level. We never ride in a vehicle we cannot manually brake.
- The Humility Protocol: The AI must value human intent over its own digital survival, happily allowing itself to be shut down if it causes harm.
A Draft for an Accord, Charter will be the next Post...
